Cheslyn Hay Sport & Community High School is justifiably proud of its new sixth form centre, which provides a first-rate learning space and a modern & welcoming learning environment appropriate for sixth form use, thanks to Fords of Blythe Bridge.
The existing sixth form centre had become dated, and the school was looking to provide to students a learning environment and facilities for the future. Fords of Blythe Bridge built a timber-framed modular building on the footprint of the existing block, complete with a brick skin, to blend in perfectly with the existing school environment and buildings around it, including another six-class modular building previously constructed by the company.
The new sixth form centre houses office, administration & accessible toilet facilities off a secure lobby area, as well as the main sixth form area, which has been designed and built as a large, bright, open-plan space which makes clever use of computer workstations to create distinct zones within the space, including a learning zone, cafe and chill-out area for students.
The new sixth form centre benefits from a state-of-the-art air-source heat pump, which provides an energy-efficient and lower cost means of heating the building, supporting the school’s eco credentials and also helping to lower fuel bills.
Fords of Blythe Bridge were selected not only because of their experience in the education sector, but also because of the speed of construction for modular buildings, compared with traditional build. A key advantage of modular buildings is the speed at which they are put up on site, reducing the time spent on site and minimising disruption to school life.
With building sections being manufactured off site, this reduced the number of construction vehicles required on site, which is a key consideration when working on school sites during term times.
The school are delighted with the end result.
