Fords of Blythe Bridge was appointed by Staffordshire County Council as principal contractor to carry out the ambitious extension project at St Luke’s Primary School, which has increased the school footprint by around 25%.
As a popular and successful primary school, St Luke’s Primary had over time outgrown its existing buildings and now had a requirement for additional accommodation for teaching purposes. The school also wanted to improve pedestrian access to the school, improving safety for pupils and providing a more welcoming entrance.
A seamless extension to the existing building, the newly enlarged school building provides two additional class bases with resource areas and store rooms, circulation space between classrooms, toilets and the school hall, an atrium & foyer area, and a secure lobby area to welcome visitors to the school. There is also a dedicate reprographics area, school office and new headteacher’s office within the new extension.
Externally, Fords of Blythe Bridge carried out all landscaping & groundworks, including new tarmac paved front entrance, soft play area, security fencing & gates, as well as turfing & landscaping works to the adjoining school field.
The school is delighted with the end result, commenting: “The new building was erected in a very short time and disruption to the school was always kept at a minimum, completing on an extremely tight deadline. The finished construction has completely transformed our school into a building fit for the future. The classrooms are now excellent learning spaces with energy saving lighting and a high quality finish.”
“I would wholeheartedly recommend Fords of Blythe Bridge for their customer delivery and their understanding that no school day is ever the same. Their close liaison with staff made the whole project run smoothly.”
