A three-class annexe was designed and built by Fords of Blythe Bridge in record time over the summer holidays for the Crescent Academy in Meir, ensuring reception children had a warm, welcoming start in their new school.
Working for Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Fords of Blythe Bridge took just seven weeks to fully design and build a 3-class annexe to the main school, which now provides a first-class teaching and learning environment for 90 local pupils.
The brick-clad annexe building matches the style of existing school buildings, and houses three classrooms with integral play areas and washroom facilities. Externally, landscaping works included laying new turf to form reading areas, soft play surfacing and tarmac pathways to the new building, as well as new fencing to the perimeter.
Delays to the project prior to the tender being awarded meant that there was a risk new pupils would have to be housed in the school hall or temporary building which would not have been an ideal start to their school journey.
To help avoid this, Fords of Blythe Bridge worked on site seven days a week throughout the project to ensure that the new build project was handed over prior to the new term, enabling the school to give its pupils the best possible start.
